Belmond La Residencia
Belmond La Residencia is a beautiful luxury hotel in Mallorca, with privileged views of the Mediterranean Sea and tree-carpeted slopes of the Tramuntana Mountains, multiple swimming pools and signature Belmond hospitality. A stay here immerses you in Mallorquin culture, with typical stone architecture setting the scene, art workshops, and proximity to the delightful village of Deia, with the Belmond providing memorable experiences from start to finish.
Part of the intoxicating appeal of Belmond La Residencia is its achingly picturesque backdrop, with lush mountains plunging into the sea and the rooftops of quaint Deia town visible from the hotel’s elevated perch. Groves of olive and lemon trees lead to pretty, landscaped gardens bursting with delicate flowers and impressive sculptures, inviting you to ponder the sea view while breathing in fragrant natural perfumes of this captivating place. The buildings themselves are all original stone from the 16th century, peeking out from the hillside on various levels and looking every bit the grand Mallorquin manor house. Inside, terracotta floors are met with ivory walls and beamed ceilings, ornate antiques and wrought iron chandeliers, enhancing the character and charm of this special property. While all of the guestrooms are impeccable, it’s worth upgrading to one with a patio, and of course a view of the sea is always worth the splurge. In addition to this, there’s a Matthew Williamson Suite for fans of his colourful prints, and a three-bedroom villa with 170sq m of space plus a kitchen, dining room and fireplace.
Belmond La Residencia is attractive indeed, though the range of facilities make it all the more irresistible. There are three swimming pools to choose from (two outdoors and one indoors), though some rooms feature a private pool if you need the intimacy. The gong-garnering spa here is wonderfully equipped, with a Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room as well as treatment rooms boasting mountain views – bliss. Even the hotel’s two tennis courts are scenic spots, looking out over the Mediterranean, and if you can’t resist the call of the sea any longer, take the hotel’s shuttle service to Cala Deia for a day on the beach. On top of this, Belmond offers guests a two-hour boat ride per stay, so you can explore the island’s coastline in true style with absolute ease.
A notable element of this superb Mallorca bolthole is the emphasis on art. Belmond La Residencia has its own gallery, showcasing pieces by talented local artists. As such, there are art workshops to take part in, where you can try painting, ceramics and sculpting; no doubt having been inspired by the gorgeous scenery all around, including the charming town of Deia. Other pastimes including Vespa rides through the island, picnics in the countryside, or simply watching a live music performance in the hotel grounds. What’s more, children will love the donkey rides and cultural activities provided by the kids’ club, or just enjoying family time by the pool.
Cuisine at Belmond La Residencia is also something to behold. For Mediterranean dining, it doesn’t get better than El Olivo restaurant, where white-cloth tables are arranged beneath lush trees, overlooking the houses of Deia. Local recipes are given a Belmond twist, best sampled by ordering the fabulous tasting menu, and paired with a sommelier-selected wine. There’s also a bistro adorned with paintings by Joan Miró, the casual Pool Restaurant and Son Fony, where generous breakfast buffets are served. All in all, you just couldn’t picture a better place to spend a luxury holiday in Mallorca, than the exceptional Belmond La Residencia.
