As uber-chic and impossibly stylish as any five-star Algarve hotel, though with so much more on offer than most, the Anantara Vilamoura Resort is certainly a place to see and be seen. There are, of course, many Algarve golfing resorts, luxury family-friendly hotels and boutique properties along this stretch of iconic Portuguese coastline, but few manage to master such an abundance of facilities with impeccably up-to-the-minute design, architecture, and a prime location. You’ll have easy access to both the Arnold Palmer-designed championship Victoria Golf Course (that Anantara sits beside), trendy Puro Beach nearby and Vilamoura Marina, which is also just a short drive away.
Every aspect of your stay at the Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort will be sleek, polished, designer and desirable. Take the evenly spaced palm trees lining two lavish outdoor pools, themselves flanked by deluxe wicker daybeds, loungers and pod-like armchairs topped with thick white cushions; it’s an impeccable picture of contemporary design and effortlessly appealing as a result. The lawns and decking which surround this particular outdoor space, and indeed the wider hotel grounds, are also immaculately manicured – akin to the hand-cut fairway they all overlook. The same is true elsewhere, from the children’s playground and playroom to plush sofas and sunbeds on the resort’s private stretch of nearby Puro Beach, this is certainly on of the more glam Algarve retreats. With nearly 300 guestrooms and suites, the Anantara Vilamoura is not strictly a boutique hotel, but such attention to detail and those infinitely high standards do make it feel intimate and exclusive.
Equally impressive is the hotel’s interior, where handcrafted wicker furniture, light floral-patterned cushions and Art Deco-style ornaments are offset against the earthier tones of dark marble flooring and indoor foliage dotted throughout, with all-natural daylight filtering into every corner thanks to wall-to-wall windows. Then there are the countless onsite facilities hidden around this modern utopia. Perhaps begin your day with an ELEMIS-infused Asian massage or tailored relaxation treatment in the spa, before a stint in the adults-only or private vitality pools, steam room and sauna. Then, if travelling to the Algarve as a family, drop little ones at the kids’ club and make your own way to the gym, tennis courts, horse riding trails, a yoga class, watersports, or speak to the Anantara golf concierge to find a nearby course that suits your standard of play. Or, couples in need of a little indulgence will find it with a wine tasting tour, sunset boat ride or spending an afternoon at the Puro Beach Club, where live DJ music, cocktails and sunshine are all too good to resist. Then, eight available restaurants and bars from swanky lounges to blissful pool and beachside al fresco terraces, private-dining spots, cookery classes and more, will round off your Anantara Vilamoura gastronomic experience.
When evening comes, retire to your equally elegant guestroom or suite, which will – no matter which room category you opt for – be a space of real 21st century elegance, polished marble floors, heavy dark wood furnishings, huge open-plan bathrooms, high-end mod-cons and a private, furnished terrace with either golf course, swimming pool or garden views. Suites come with an ever-larger floorplan, lounge area and butler service which is a nice touch and can help if travelling as a family, with the Penthouse Suite going a step further with its rooftop terrace and outdoor Jacuzzi. Overall, the standard of finish, décor and design of each is equally supreme, and perfectly in line with the rest of the magnificent Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort.
