Cap Maison

Marrying Spanish architectural styles with Caribbean charm and fine French fare, Cap Maison Resort and Spa is a rather special boutique bolthole in St Lucia. It is found in the Cap Estate region to the north of the island, up on the cliffs above Smugglers Cove bestowing views across the sea to Pigeon Island and beyond. The location is enviable indeed, but then there’s so much more at Cap Maison to ensure you are spoiled during your own Caribbean escape.

One of the most striking elements of the hotel is its tasteful Spanish architecture, all whitewash walls, terracotta roofs and leafy gardens weaving their way through the grounds. Inside, hand-painted tiles lend an intimate touch, while large windows bring the light in and frame scenes of the sea, greenery or the courtyards outside. There’s a mix of rooms, suites and villas, from the unfussy Garden View Room to Oceanview Villa Suite, the latter being a lavish, capacious haven with a private Jacuzzi or pool, for added indulgence. All are dressed in white with wooden accents, splashes of colour and outdoor showers in certain guestrooms.

As well as this distinctive design, Cap Maison stands out with its decadent dining options which rank among some of the best on the island. Chef Craig Jones oversees the much-loved Cliff at Cap, a restaurant teetering high above the sea serving lip-smacking Caribbean-French fusion food; the views are just as spectacular as the menu. Then there’s The Naked Fisherman, the hotel’s beach bar-meets-eatery where you can break from sunbathing on Smugglers Cove to sip rum punch and tuck into creative takes on local classics. Another unmissable culinary experience here is enjoying a private dinner at Rock Maison, a deck set right above the sea to which buckets of champagne can be delivered to you via zip-wire – very slick indeed.

While Cap Maison is primed for lazy days beneath a Caribbean sun, it also caters to active types with a string of watersports available on Smugglers Cove, guided runs and hikes along the coast, and then St Lucia’s golf club is conveniently close by if you want to practise your swing. You might prefer surrendering to serenity at the hotel spa, with open-air treatments accompanied by the sounds of the sea. Or, go for a dip in either of Cap Maison’s two swimming pools: one is two-tiered and overlooks the sea, while the other is found in the Spanish-style courtyard; both are heavenly. Wherever you choose to while away the hours, Cap Maison’s staff will be close at hand to attend to your every whim, and make your St Lucia holiday the one you deserve.
