Malliouhana, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, dazzles with its immaculate white façade, two swimming pools, intimate spa and elegant guestrooms, all found dotted across 25 pretty acres. The ocean views are hypnotising, with nothing between the hotel and Caribbean Sea but white sandy beaches, beckoning you to come and bathe beneath the Anguillan sun.
Enter through the light and airy lobby into Malliouhana, welcomed by well-drilled staff who await with chilled water and a smile. The style once inside is decidedly Caribbean-chic meeting Californian sophistication, where light shades of yellow, turquoise and orange combine with Art Deco mirroring, and a smattering of objets d’art thrown in for good measure. This playful yet elegant design extends to Malliouhana’s 44 guestrooms, each of which possesses an outdoor terrace, white lacquer furniture, lampshade stands shaped like turquoise coral and ethereal frescos. Bathrooms are marble-clad, oversized sanctuaries with walk-in rain showers and dual vanities, perfect pads for a spot of pampering. Higher category guestrooms do come with more spacious floorplans and privileged sea views, but the suites are yet more lavish thanks to separate living rooms and up to 2,500sq ft to savour.
Outside, Malliouhana’s distinctive design is skilfully applied to the pool areas, one for adults-only and the other family-friendly, both edged by nautical-themed loungers and cabanas, orange cushions and palm trees. Below the hotel, on Meads Bay Beach, canary yellow parasols provide shade between dips in the crystal-clear sea, though if you’re feeling more active there are also opportunities for watersports such as kayaking, diving, snorkelling and even kitesurfing. Make use of Malliouhana’s tennis and basketball courts, go for a round of golf at the 18-hole Cuisinart course nearby, try horse riding or borrow bikes to explore Anguilla.
Malliouhana is also prime for wellness and relaxation. Reconnect mind, body and soul with some nourishing outdoor yoga, the sea as your backdrop, or head to the spa for locally inspired treatments such as a warm shell massage, sugar cane body exfoliation or coconut crème massage. You might prefer to enjoy these spa therapies in the privacy of your guestroom, on the beachfront or poolside, to feel all the more connected with this idyllic Caribbean setting as you unwind.
Drift from your al fresco perch to the sophisticated restaurant at Malliouhana, for seafood plucked straight from the ocean, and farm-fresh dishes so good you won’t need to dine elsewhere. For dinner, you might start with specialities such as watermelon and conch ceviche, followed up with sake-grilled ahi tuna, delicious. Breakfast is also a tantalising fusion of Anguillan and American favourites, while lunch offers all kinds of plates, from pizza to salads to fish. Alternatively, hit the Sunset Bar for snack food, cocktails, even cigars, and don’t miss the wine and rum tastings that takes place two evenings a week at the hotel; just heavenly.
